Unfortunately we do not have any start dates at present, as two courses are already in progress. We will update this page and social media pages once we have more information available.

This course is specifically designed to ensure that Nurse on Call recruits are the best and most suitable people to meet the needs of our client Hospitals. First and foremost; we are looking for people who are suitable to our needs. Secondly we are looking for people who have the empathy, communication skills and shared experiences that we require all Carers to have in order to relate to patients. The most suitable people will be given first preference for the course.

Please note that competition for places is very keen, therefore we reserve the right to decide who is suitable and who is not.

Break down of the course is as follows;

 The course is completed in two parts. Please note that both parts of the courses must be completed in order to achieve the requirement of the Major Award. Initially course duration is 6 full days in the classroom followed by an assessment day. Attendance on all days is essential for certification including the assessment day. The first three days of the course encompass the Fetac 5 Care Skills module. The following days will train you in Manual Handling, CPR, Infection Control, Elder Abuse and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training- the day-to-day courses required to work in a hospital/nursing home environment.

Part 1:

Wednesday

9:15am - 1pm Introduction
Infection Prevention and Control which includes infection prevention and control, Hand Hygiene, Waste Management and Decontamination Issues and Personal Protection, Elder Abuse, Basic Physiology.

PM 1.45pm - 5pm
Care Skills  Care skills include all skills required for full nursing care of patients.

Thursday

9:15am - 5pm Care Skills 

Friday

9:15am - 5pm Care Skills 

Monday

9:15am - 5pm Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training - teaches you how to deal with difficult and aggressive patients.

Tuesday

9:15am - 5pm Manual Handling, Patient Moving and Health and Safety - teaches you to use hoists, sliding sheets /boards, and general equipment to assist in moving patients safely etc.

Wednesday

8:00am- 6pm CPR and AED Training -- teaches you how to do cardio pulmonary resuscitation, prevent choking and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator
 
Thursday

Assessment Day: times to be allocated by Instructor 

Part 2:

The following 7 modules will then be completed over the course of 26 weeks. You must make yourself available from 9am to 4pm (this will be on Thursdays or Fridays- to be confirmed). During these 26 weeks you will still be available to put yourself on call 6 days a week, working a minimum of two 12-hour shifts, in order to complete your paid work experience period.

      Communications

      Work Practice (Theory)

      Infection Control

       Care Support 

      Team Working

      Health and Safety

     

Fees:

Fees for the course are €1525 in total. If you are offered a place on the course a €150 deposit will be required. Balance to be paid in full no later than one week weeks before course is due to begin. Fee is non-refundable including deposit.
